Noosa Style Magazine Cover

November 3, 2018

Cover baby! I was so honoured to be part of the magazine cover shoot for a local lifestyle magazine 'Noosa Style'.

Clothing boutique Pin Up Paradise has had much success since opening their doors in Noosa Junction just over a year ago, and I was so excited to hear they had been given the cover of the Spring edition of the 'Noosa Style' magazine. I have worked very closely with both designers of Pin Up Paradise; Maya of Razzama Dazzle and Rebeccca of Siren Clothing, and was eager to get my hands on Lily Ruve's hair (Maya's daughter and pinup supermodel).

The direction for the shoot was spring themed, focusing on the spring racing carnival season and of course, spring flowers. I was to produce two looks, with hats being the focus. The challenge was to create a hairstyle that would work with the two spring racing themed hats and could be brushed out on location for a wide brimmed hat. As always, I use a mixture of vintage and modern pictures for my inspiration, and settled on these three images from our Pinterest 'Hat Hair' board:

Prep for the shoot was done at Pinup HQ, where I curl set Lily's hair and placed every detail into one of my favourite updos I've ever done! While Lily expertly applied her own makeup and Maya put the finishing touches and accessories to each outfit.

The location was a painted alley way in Noosa Junction, a spot you would probably easily walk by without noticing it's beauty.  The first two outfits featured dresses from Siren Clothing.

Then it was a quick outfit change into a new Razzama Dazzle design.

We decided to do two hair looks with this dress. I took out all the pins and roughly ran my fingers through the curls to break them up in a more Marilyn inspired brush out.

Then for the final cover image, I smoothed and brushed all the curls under for a more elegant Grace Kelly inspired look.

I love being on set for photoshoots and filming. It's important to have the creative team on location for jobs like this so they can keep an eye on the details of their creative works (ie. hairstyle). Photographers have enough to worry about such as lighting and composition, that its handy to have a creative team on the sideline to quickly adjust a hem line or stray hair.

It was a great team effort and a great day.

xoxo
