Earlier this year we attended our first Wedding Fair for none other than Vintage Bride Magazine. Following on from our feature spread in the magazine, we were also featured on their blog as a wedding vendor. See below our interview with the magazine and learn a little more about our bridal services.
Vintage Bride simply adore these ladies – not only was one of their stunning shoots featured in our current annual magazine but they are also part of our upcoming Vintage Bride Wedding Fair Brisbane next Sunday (March 2017). We recently got to know a little bit more about Sunshine Coast Pinup School and their darling business where they not only offer fabulous hens parties for brides-to-be who are looking for a memorable yet classy way to celebrate with all of their favourite ladies, but they also offer pin up inspired hairstyling services for the big day!

Tell us a little bit about Sunshine Coast Pinup School and the services that you offer?
We specialise in authentic and modern vintage and pinup inspired bridal hairstyling. We also create unique and memorable hen’s parties with our hands on pinup hair and makeup workshops.
Share with us how you came to launch the Pinup School?
The Sunshine Coast Pinup School was created by two local pinup models, Miss Hg Mercury and Miss Fifi La Rouge teaching hands on pinup hair and makeup workshops on the Sunshine Coast. The Pinup School has since expanded to encompass everything vintage, retro and pinup on the Sunshine Coast, from car show trade stalls, styled photoshoots, bridal and event hair styling, and hen’s and birthday parties.

What inspires you when it comes to creating your stunning bridal looks?
We are constantly inspired by other creatives within the industry as well as classic Hollywood movies. When we create a bridal look, we prefer to work with the individual and bring out her inner vintage goddess or pinup siren, to create a unique vintage inspired hairstyle to complement her personality and highlight her natural beauty.
Do you work on your own or do you have a team of stylists?
We have a very small team of dedicated stylists with Miss Hg Mercury leading the pack as head stylist and boss lady.

Are you a mobile service and if so which areas do you service?
Our hen’s parties and bridal hairstyling services are completely mobile. We service the areas of the Sunshine Coast for free with a small travel fee for other areas. In March, we will be working our first interstate wedding in Newcastle, NSW and we look forward to doing more travelling for our future brides.
Do you offer hair trials or any other special packages? If so we’d love to find out about the services that you offer brides in addition to styling on the day.
We love to create unique individual vintage inspired hairstyles for our brides and understand that communication and trust is key. That’s why we have included a hair trial in the price of our bridal hairstyling with an open line of communication. This allows us to get to know our brides, their inspirations and visions, so we can create the perfect hairstyle to complement their bridal look and personality. We also offer hens party packages where the bride and her friends and family can learn how to transform themselves into pinup perfection.

What is a pinup hen’s party and how is it different to other traditional pre-bridal celebrations?
For our hen’s parties, we bring our popular hands on pinup hair and makeup workshops to you with a private at-home group workshop with plenty of vintage girly fun. Our hen’s parties are all inclusive, so everyone from your niece to your grandmother can be included in the celebrations. We teach all the tricks of the trade on how to achieve classic vintage hairstyles and pinup perfect makeup. We strive on offering hands on assistance, so everyone can confidently transform themselves into pinup perfection. Our parties are also a great way for brides to introduce friends and family to the vintage lifestyle that they love so much.
We love a great bridal hair accessory – what are your favourite types of accessories at the moment?
We can’t go past a simple understated hair flower clip. We love how hair flowers can add that touch of romance, fun and pop of colour for that classic pinup inspired look.
What advice do you have for brides when they are deciding on the perfect hair & makeup look for themselves and their bridesmaids?
Our first question to our brides is usually “What decade/era is your wedding inspired from?”. Which decade do you find resonates with your most? What fashion era do you usually dress in or are draw to? Whether it be the glamour and opulence of the Art Deco period or the fun and flirty 60s, we then brainstorm which authentic vintage and vintage inspired hairstyles of that era would work best for the bride and her bridal party.
It’s always tricky for brides to plan out the timings for their wedding morning – on average how long does it take for you to style each bride / bridesmaid?
We like to allow 2 hours for the bride and 1 hour for each bridesmaid for hairstyling. We happily work around makeup artists. We like to allow more time for the bride as we know it’s a big day, and there might be breaks for photos or special moments with close family and the bridal party.
When you’re not making brides and their bridesmaids look even more amazing what do you like to do in your spare time?
We live and breathe the vintage and pinup lifestyle. Most weekends you will find us at local car shows, supporting pinup pageants, teaching hands on group and private workshops, working at photoshoots and doing pinup transformations.
What would be your favourite vintage era for styling inspiration?
We have a soft spot for the 1950s. The fashion is flattering for all body types with the hair and makeup being classic and timeless. The cars from the 50s stand on their own with their statement details and bright colours.
For 2018/2019 what sort of trends do you think there will be with wedding hair styles and make up for both brides and bridesmaids?
As the vintage culture and vintage reproduction fashion becomes more accepted by the wider community, we are gradually starting to see truly unique and individual looks. Specific details of individual eras are being fused together to create all new hairstyle and makeup trends.
